How counties and cities do economic development is changing. Government agencies like the economic development commission are now doing much more than just growing jobs in any region. They are developing partnerships to better support entrepreneurs and startups.
In 2010, NASA and the Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast launched a program to help innovators gain credibility, cut development time and cost. The Technology Docking Program has supported dozens of startups — space related and not space related — to receive mentorship from NASA and limited access to laboratory resources. Deadline is June 30 for any innovators seeking development support.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Technology Docking offers a structured interface between regional industry, NASA and partnering technology enablers. A NASA Technology Liaison is available to meet one on one with your company to discuss specific technology challenges during a series of Open Door events held throughout the year. To begin a discussion about how NASA and the EDC can help your company solve a technology challenge you are encouraged to take part in the NASA / EDC Technology Docking Industry Needs Assessment.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Manufacturing and technology based companies located in Brevard County, FL and surrounding areas with clearly articulated technology challenges that align with NASA capabilities.
HOW WILL I BENEFIT?
Up to ten regional companies will be competitively selected to participate in a facilitated matchmaking event. Each will be paired with NASA experts to solve a company defined technology challenge by potentially accessing the following NASA resources:
– Intellectual Property
– Facilities Test Services
– Research, Development, Test & Evaluation Services
– Subject Matter Experts
HOW CAN MY COMPANY BE SELECTED FOR THE MATCHMAKING EVENT?
By completing the NASA / EDC Technology Docking Industry Needs Assessment by June 30, 2017 your company will be considered to receive subject matter expert assistance during the summer 2017 Technology Docking Assistance session. For information about eligibility and selection criteria, please click here.
COULD I BENEFIT IF MY COMPANY IS NOT SELECTED FOR THE MATCHMAKING EVENT?
Yes, Technology Docking is an initiative that strives to provide technological help to the Region. Other forms of assistance are available or under development and these may be a better fit if you are not selected.
IS THERE A COST?
As this is a pilot program, each inquiry will be managed on an individualized basis. – Companies selected to participate in the matchmaking event will receive a defined level of services at no charge depending on the scope of the project. – Certain services and resources may be made available at no charge, while other services you may require could incur costs.
